Depth of Field

Depth of field (DoF) is the distance in front of and beyond a subject that appears to be in focus. Obtaining different depths of field can create dramatic, film-like effects that will take your productions to the next level.

How it works

In traditional 35mm still photography the amount of DoF is determined by the size of the lens' iris or aperture, the more open the iris the shallower the depth of field. In video, the amount of DoF is determined by both the iris and size of the image sensor. If your video camera has a 35mm image sensor than you will get the same amount of DoF as a traditional 35mm SLR. That is where 35mm adapters come in, the Letus35 adapters are basically creating a “virtual image sensor” for your video camera. This way even though your camera's image sensor is much smaller than 35mm you are still able to achieve DoF by recording the images being projected onto the “virtual image sensor” by the 35mm SLR Lens.
