Magnification Factor

Magnification factor refers to the amount of Field of View (FOV) that you get when using different kinds of lenses and frame sizes. For instance many of today's Digital SLR cameras are not full frame 35mm cameras so when you use a full frame lens on a DSLR you will loose some FOV. Say your DSLR camera has 1.5 magnification factor, this means that a 28mm lens will actually be 42mm (28 X 1.5 = 42).

Full Frame DSLR

Many of the DSLR manufactured today do not have full frame 35mm (36mmx24mm). Many of theses cameras use smaller image sensors such as APS-H (Approx - 29x19mm) and APS-C (Approx - 24mmx16mm). If you plan to use a lens that is designed for these cameras please see this page for some helpful information.
